Now 200 - A weekend of music through the decades
October 20, 2014
On behalf of David and all our singers I would like to extend our congratulations to Kippax Brass Band on reaching their Bicentery year.
200 years of brass banding!! The Napoleonic wars were still being fought, Lord Byron's poems were being published, Beethoven's symphonies were being premiered and Kippax Brass Band were starting out, just as VivaVox are now. Ironically, I realised a few days earlier that the Saturday of the concert marked the first anniversary of our very first official rehearsal. Over the past few weeks, I've found myself reflecting on whether VivaVox will still be going strong in 2213, what sort of music the choir will be performing, who will be running it (certinaly not David and myself!!) and whether Pharell Williams 'Happy' will be regarded as a classic!
The band have been holding celebratory concerts throughout the year and we were delighted when they asked us to join them for their annual concert at the band club last weekend. Over the weekend we staged 2 wonderful, sell out concerts showcasing an array of music from the last 6 decades including hits from The Beatles, David Bowie, ELO, Robbie Williams, Stevie Wonder and Lady Gaga. The night finished with a rousing rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody played by the band, sung by the choir and featuring the talented young musician

James Orr blasting out the Brian May guitar solo.
Thank you to the band, Keith Fairburn, Colin Moss and notably the bands conductor David Lancaster for giving us such a warm welcome. I sincerely hope it will be the first of many collaborations in the future.
